Disney Studios and Lucasfilm released a digital collection of the first six
movies, remastered in high definition, through Amazon and iTunes in April. The
Force Awakens, the seventh of the series, opens in theaters December 18. Early
ticket sales for the film have broken IMAX records at $6.5 million, outpacing
past frontrunners such as The Dark Knight Rises and Avengers. Co-branded
promotions for The Force Awakens include TV commercials for Kohl’s Black Friday
sales and Verizon. According to Ad Age, at least $66 million has been shelled
out for promotional TV time and those numbers are still rising. "Force
Friday" (September 4, 2015) marked the midnight unveiling of new Star
Wars: The Force Awakens toys to the public at retailer locations like Target,
The Disney Store, Toys 'R Us, etc. According to NPD, every $1 of $11 spent that
weekend went toward a Star Wars toy. The film was also marketed in the traditional
mainstream ways such as billboards, posters ads and trailers.
Tie-In Products: There
were many products related to the film such lunchboxes, water bottles and children’s
toys like light savers and mini characters. There was also lots of clothing on
the market such as jumpers and t-shirts.
SFX (Special effects
- technology used): Star Wars is a known film series for using special effects such
as CGI in a really creative and unique way. For example: The Imperial TIE Fighter using the same
concept of solar-based energy for ion production as NASA craft deep space 1 by
the use of solar panels. Most of the sound effects in the film are also special
effects. Some of these sounds include, Ray Guns, canons etc. CGI also played a
big part in the film because most of the film was built up by visual effects to
make the film make sense. The technology involved was for example Solar power,
and laser technology.
Any Issues:
1. The Force Awakens needed more dry politics and exposition.
2. The characters are too likable and complex in Episode VII.
3. Not every scene was mainly CGI.
4. George Lucas didn’t write and direct.
