Film Production




 

Writer:  A writer who practices the craft of screenwriting on which mass media such as films. The writer also takes part in defining the idea and making sure it fits with each character and role in the film. He/she makes sure that the whole plot adds up on the script and that the idea has been confirmed.

Producer: Produces a plan and coordinates various aspects of the film production, such as selecting script, coordinating writing, directing and editing. The producer is the person who has the power to make the idea into reality.

Casting Director: Works with director and producer to assemble the perfect cast for the film. As a result, casting directors must have in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of new and existing acting talent.

Director: The person who makes the script and the idea processed from the producer into reality. They are responsible for creatively translating the film’s written script into actual images and sounds on the screen. They are also responsible for the film’s success or failure.

Film Finance: An aspect of film production that occurs during the development stage prior to pre-production, and is concerned with determining the potential value of a proposed film.

Camera Operator: responsible for physically operating the camera and maintaining composition and camera angles throughout a given scene or shot. In narrative filmmaking, the camera operator will collaborate with the director, director of photography, actors and crew to make technical and creative decisions.

Editor: responsible for assembling recorded raw material into a finished product that's suitable for broadcasting. The material may include camera footage, dialogue, sound effects, graphics and special effects.

Production Designer: responsible for the visual concept of a film, television or theatre production. They identify a design style for sets, locations, graphics, props, lighting, camera angles and costumes, while working closely with the director and producer.

Marketing: Those working in the marketing department oversee all material and communications targeting the audience. This includes the ‘stills’ (pictures taken, usually during production, of the actors and crew to stimulate interest in the project); poster campaign; new media publicity; print and radio advertising; and involvement with creating the trailers for the film.

Exhibition: Responsible for showing films in cinemas or on DVD. Media attention through opening nights and premieres How the audience can see the film: in cinemas, at home, on DVD, through downloads, through television, including premieres, the box office takes in the opening weeks; audience reviews which includes those of the film critics, ordinary people, cinemas runs; awards in festivals, The Oscars, BAFTAS, etc.
